Dani Strange Ryan - July 2025
Dani Strange Ryan
Pencil to Paper, a solo show by queer Manchester-based artist, Dani Strange Ryan.
Exhibition dates: 18th July - 12th August 2025
Through portraiture, Dani attempts to bring together the specificity of person and place, whilst maintaining the spontaneity and energy inherent in a drawing practice. This stylistic tension between accuracy and expressive gesture aims to create portraits which exude warmth, connection and joy.
Alongside her trademark portraiture work, she also displayed unseen life drawing sketches and copies from art history, as a way of establishing the drawing process at the heart of the exhibition.
Dani Strange Ryan is a Manchester-based fine artist working in a naturalistic style across drawing, printmaking and mixed media. Her practice is observational and interrogative, using genres such as portraiture and urban landscapes, and conceptually grounded in questions of geographical and historical mutability, change, power and dispossession. She is a freelance architectural history tour guide, with a background of history teaching in schools in the state education sector.
